Cultural and artistic projects play an important role in DGTL’s identity. We curate a wide variety of conceptual art performances and installations to engage our visitors. We work with local artists as much as possible. From industrial to modular to recycled, the art at DGTL is an integral part of the overall concept: an unparalleled festival experience from which people can derive something extra. A feeling, a revelation, an idea, an inspiration. We select art projects based on the following criteria:
One of our program’s aims is for DGTL to become a waste-free festival. Therefore, all art projects need to be as sustainable as possible. In order to fulfil this objective, we require artists to supply a list with all materials used in the work. This ensures us they have taken into account the environmental impact of your work and that you implement environmentally friendly means of production. We strongly encourage the use of reclaimed or recycled materials. We also want to know what happens to the work/project after the festival is finished. Don’t let it turn to waste!
PARTICIPATORY AND/OR INTERACTION
Art installations that interact with visitors are highly preferable. They increase participatory social behaviour in our visitors and contribute strongly to the festival experience.
RAISING AWARENESS/ PROBLEM SOLVING
At DGTL we like art with a message. Reducing waste or encouraging people to grow their own food or start recycling? We would like to know what drives you mad, or what brings you great joy. How do you intent to ͞trigger͟ our visitors and what message will they take home.
DGTL is rapidly becoming a smart festival. We are rethinking our festival build-up, and the art projects need to fit in this vision. We implement the modularity philosophy in our festival lay-out, decoration, art projects and logistics. Think: Building blocks, Lego, K’nex, Origami, shipping containers, 3D printed, beehive, triangles, IBC water tanks.
In the past we have hosted quite a few iconic art projects and installations. These installations attract a lot of visitors and become memorable objects for a specific edition of DGTL. They blend in well with the raw vibe of the festival site, the stage designs and and all other art projects
